Indonesian klewang sword with silver handle from the island of Sumatra. High quality silver sheet with beautiful detail chiseled in. As with just about all of the swords I have seen in this style the blade is quite pitted and patinated dark. It is my belief that the condition of the blade is caused by use in a ritual setting with blood offerings, such as the killing of the water buffalo. There are also 14 small silver bars set into the back edge of the blade. 19th century or earlier, 21" overall.
