#INDO216: Intricately carved canoe prow from the island of Tanimbar in the Maluku island chain, Indonesia.
This small canoe prow is one of four (?) that were mounted in pairs tilting to each side of the larger prow in the center. This one is from a set of three almost identical pieces from the same boat that were previously collected by Thomas Murray. There is some restoration fill and color where the holes and trails of wood bugs left their damage from years of neglect and storage. 15 ½” tall by 4” wide, 19th century or earlier, Tanimbar, Indonesia……..$3500.00
