#OC107: 19th century Fijian Ula throwing club with finely carved head This fine projectile weapon is made from the burl root ball of a young tree as the head, and has a nice dark patina from age and use. The handle has intricate zig-zag patterns carved into the surface. There is a small missing chunk out of the handle where the hanger hole split out, and a couple of stable cracks on the head. There is an old braided green silk rope through a hole in the shaft that is not traditional to the Fijian Islands. This was most likely added by a sailor (for his own use) when collected, most likely in the late 19th century. 16” overall with a 3 ¾” diameter head…………$1800.00 |
