#OC224: Solomon Island figural staff with shell inlay. This well
carved staff depicts a figure and two snakes. The figure is biting
one snake as the second snake bites the figure on the ankle. Most
likely this represents a proverb or story, but I know not the
meaning. The red colored wood has a nice patina from age and
handling, and the black of the figure and one snake is done with the Early 20th century, 40” tall by 2 3/4 “ wide mounted on a custom |
