#PH302: Unusual Southern Philippine sword similar to a Barong with an ivory handle. This sword was purchased on the island of Basilan, and may originate from this area. The handle is solid ivory (marine ivory?) and has two cut out notches that most likely held the cockatoo like designs found on Barong swords. There is also a high quality silver ring, and old quality woven fiber. The blade is thin material (3/16” at the back) compared to a Barong, but it is high quality steel. The scabbard is old, but very simple with some damage and held together with wire, and it is most likely a later replacement. This sword feels very good in the hand, is made for battle, and was most likely made for an important person. 19th or early 20th century, 24 ½” overall with a 18 ½” blade, Southern Philippines……………$650.00
