A very rare and striking Ramu River war shield with natural pigment paint.The details are carved in as well as colored. The woven rattan basketwork and handle is intact and in very good condition. There are two similar shields know with the same style and colors,and both were sold by Michael Hamson. This is the third piece know of this style. There are multiple arrow tips stuck into the front surface and the back has a good dark patina from age and use. Field collected by Dr. Bertil Örndahl in the 1960’s, Stockholm, Sweden. 50 1/2” tall by 20” wide. Early 20th century, New Guinea. $7500.00
