INDO811: Dayak Mandau Sword

A fine and complete Kenya / Kayan Dayak headhunter Mandau sword. The finely carved handle has multiple Aso heads with open mouths, fangs and protruding tongues. The original woven natural fiber handle wrap and pitch are also intact. The well forged blade has multiple Aso figures chiseled into the surface. The Pisau knife has a good handle of antler and coconut shell layers. The scabbard is in good condition with intact belt loop and bark Pisau scabbard. The overall patina is good from age and use.     

29 inches overall with a 21 inch blade that is 3/8 at the back edge. 19th century Borneo, Indonesian.
