AS626: Balkan Yatagan

An unusual and high quality sword that i have not found a good comparison for yet. It has Yatagan characteristics in blade form and construction, and is most likely from the Balkan area. The handle is adorned with silver. The blade is well made with engravings of sun, moon and stars on both sides. These symbols are found on many different 18th century European swords, and they were copied by other cultures for their own use. The quality off the blade and workmanship is very good. I would be happy to hear if anyone has a more definite culture of manufacture and use for this one.     

30 inches overall with a 24 inch blade. 19th century or earlier, Balkans.
